Impaired vision of the left eye for a 1-year duration.
Patient Data
A well-defined rounded lesion is seen in the suprasellar region to the left of the midline plane, measuring about 25 x 25 mm in maximal transverse diameter, the lesion showed heterogeneously high signal in T1WIs and signal void in T2 and FLAIR pulse sequences, the above findings highly in favor of a saccular cerebral aneurysm in the distal segment of the left internal carotid artery.
Normal size and configuration of the ventricular system. No midline shift. Normal posterior fossa. Scanned paranasal sinuses are clear apart from few mucoceles in both maxillary sinuses.
Case Discussion
This case shows a giant aneurysm of the left internal carotid artery. Saccular cerebral aneurysms, also known as berry aneurysms, are intracranial aneurysms with a characteristic rounded shape and account for the vast majority of intracranial aneurysms. They are also the most common cause of non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage.
