Segond fracture

Presentation

Inability to weight bear following collision with cycle.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Avulsed bone fragment from the lateral margin of the tibial plateau. Features are of a segond fracture which is a harbinger for significant internal knee damage.

Case Discussion

The patient suffered a segond fracture. Further evaluation demonstrated a partial ACL tear.

This is different to the arcuate sign, which is a fracture of the proximal tip of the fibula.
