The diagram illustrates the various structures that may be involved in avulsing part of the lateral tibial plateau creating the characteristic Segond fracture. 

Case Discussion

Segond fractures occur via tension along a variety of structures to a varying degree. These include: the anterior oblique band of the fibular collateral ligament, the lateral capsular ligament (deep), and posterior fibers of the iliotibial band (ITB).
