Presentation
Persisting hamstring tightness in last week's game.
Patient Data
Extensive abnormality of the semimembranosus muscle centered on the proximal central tendon slip/musculotendinous junction. Mild irregularity of the central tendon slip with mild waviness of contour of the posteromedial aspect of this tendon slip, representing central tendon slip injury/tear. STIR hyperintensity is for 21.5 cm in length with 5 cm of fiber disruption. >50% cross-sectional diameter is involved.
Mild extension of edema to the posteromedial myofascial interface with mild fluid signal around the sciatic nerve.
Slightly more superiorly there is a small area of increased signal within the biceps femoris tendon adjacent to the central tendon slip. No other focal abnormality is identified.
Case Discussion
There are two muscle injuries present:
- semimembranosus - BAC grade 3c
- biceps femoris - BAC grade 1b
