The sequence of events in the development of silent sinus syndrome.
- the maxillary ostium is obstructed and air is reabsorbed from the sinus
- negative pressure develops in the sinus drawing the walls of the maxillary sinus inwards
- inward bowing of the maxillary sinus walls results in enlargement of the orbit
