Single umbilical artery

Case Discussion

Single umbilical artery is found in up to 1% of all pregnancies. About 50% are associated with congenital anomalies. The diameter of the umbilical artery in such cases is usually more than in fetuses with 2 umbilical arteries and this closely approximates that of the umbilical vein. In this case no major anomaly was detected as is seen in more than 25 % of cases.
