Slipped upper femoral epiphysis with follow up

Presentation

Left hip pain in overweight boy.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male

Decreased height of left femoral epiphysis. A line drawn up the lateral margin of the left femoral metaphysis does not intersect the epiphysis on the AP view (line of Klein). There is subtle widening of the epiphyseal growth plate. Appearances of slipped upper left femoral epiphysis.

After pinning. 

Case Discussion

Slipped upper femoral epiphysis managed with pinning. Some orthopedic surgeons elect to prophylactically pin the unaffected hip.
