Small bowel obstruction and pregnancy

Presentation

History of bowel surgery at 2 weeks of age. Has been developing intestinal obstruction over 9 days with reduced oral intake, continuous vomiting and bowels not opening. She is 26 weeks pregnant.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Female

Intrauterine pregnancy, small amount of pelvic free fluid. Diffusely dilated loops of small bowels indicating small bowel obstruction. Bilateral mild hydronephrosis.

MRI performed rather than CT confirms small bowel obstruction with a transition point.

Fibrous adhesions found interoperatively.
