Small bowel loops are dilated. Maximum transverse diameter measuring 4.5 cm.
Zone of transition noted in distal ileal loops approximately 2-3 cm from the ileocecal junction, typical swirl appearance noted in this region.
Overall impression Small bowel volvulus (ileal) resulting in acute obstruction.
Case Discussion
Intestinal volvulus is torsion of bowel loops around its mesentery resulting in narrowing at the site of twist with proximal bowel dilatation.
