Snapping hip syndrome

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Snapping sound from bilateral hips on movement with no significant pain. Clinically suspected femoro-acetabular impingement.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Thickening and hyperintensity of bilateral iliotibial bands is seen at the level of greater trochanters of femur.

Bilateral mild gluteus medius/minimus tendinosis is also seen.

Lateral central edge angle is approx. 380 on right side and 370 on left side (within normal limits). No obvious osseous bump seen around bilateral femoral heads / necks.

Case Discussion

Findings are in keeping with extra-articular, lateral type of snapping hip syndrome and explain the patient's symptoms.
