Presentation
Painful mass in lower left rib.
Patient Data
A rounded mass is demonstrated within the left chest wall associated with a focal destruction of the 6th rib. The lungs and pleural spaces are clear.
The mass is confirmed to be a soft tissue tumor destroying the rib. Dependent atelectasis and small left pleural effusion.
Case Discussion
Solitary bone plasmacytoma: the thoracic vertebrae are most commonly involved, followed by lumbar, sacral, and cervical vertebrae. The rib, sternum, clavicle, and/or scapula are involved in ~20% of cases.
This case was discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting where the diagnosis was announced.
