This child underwent computed tomography to investigate behavior change, drowsiness, and slurred voice.

Patient Data

Age: 2 years.
Gender: Male

CT demonstrates a cartilaginous union along the midline in the cranial base between the basilar portion of the occipital bone and the sphenoid, which is the spheno-occipital synchondrosis. 

Case Discussion

The spheno-occipital synchondrosis is a hyaline cartilaginous union between the occipital and sphenoid bones 1-3. This synchondrosis is a growth center of the cranial face skeleton 1-3.
