Sprengel deformity (bilateral)

Cosmetic deformity with mild bilateral shoulder stiffness.

Age: 16 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Both scapulae are elevated with superomedial angles reaching up to transverse process of T1 vertebra which corresponds to grade II Sprengel deformity according to the Rigault classification.

Case Discussion

Sprengel deformity, or congenital elevation of the scapula, is a complex deformity of the shoulder and is the most common congenital shoulder abnormality. An initial diagnosis can often be made on radiography, but CT or MRI is often necessary to evaluate the details of the abnormality.
