Sprengel deformity

Left shoulder abnormality with elevation and reduced range of movement.

Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female

The scapula is elevated consistent with the diagnosis of Sprengel deformity.


The left scapula is high-riding with an accompanying omovertebral bar. The high riding scapula is known as a Sprengel deformity.

Case Discussion

This case has an omovertebral bar that demonstrates continuity with the posterolateral elements of the cervical vertebra. These are present in approximately 50% of cases.
