Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

Small ovoid well-corticated midline bony defect of the inferior aspect of the sternal body in keeping with a sternal foramen.

Kyphosis with degenerative changes of the thoracic spine.

Case Discussion

Sternal foramen (or perforated sternum) is due to an incomplete fusion of the sternal ossification centers and considered as a common developmental variant of the sternum seen in approximately 5% of the population.
