Presentation

Dyspnea and cough.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Unilaterally small left lung with high-riding diaphragm and mediastinal shift to the left. Emphysematous bullae and fibrous changes of the left lung. The right lung appears perfectly normal.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates the typical features of Swyer-James syndrome: Unilateral small lung, albeit with signs of air trapping. The changes are caused by bronchiolitis obliterans in infancy or childhood.
