Tennis leg

Case contributed by Dr Ali Abougazia

Right calf snapping and severe pain following sudden rigorous movement.

Patient Data

Age: 23
Gender: Male

The musculo-tendinous junction of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle is seen thickened with increased signal.

Thin rim of fluid collection is seen insinuated between the distal medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle and the soleus muscle eliciting bright T2/STIR signals with intermediate T1 signal denoting blood products.

Case Discussion

Medial head of gastrocnemius musculo-tendinous strain and inter-muscular aging hematoma insinuated between it and the soleus muscle as described, a picture suggestive of Tennis leg.
