Presentation

Groin hematoma following femoral artery punture for coronary angiography

Patient Data

Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a hypoechoic area superficial to and in the proximity of the superficial femoral artery. On color Doppler flow can be seen within it in a characteristic yin-yang pattern. The appearances are consistent with a pseudoaneurysm of the superficial femoral artery. A short tract, also showing flow on doppler, connecting the pseudoaneurysm with the parent vessel, is the pseudoaneurysm neck. It represents the needle tract used for accessing the artery for coronary angiography.
