Thoracic aortic aneuyrsm

Patient presents with chest pain and shortness of breath.

Patient Data

Age: 71
Gender: Female

Markedly dilated thoracic aorta, involving the arch and descending aorta.

Heart size upper limit of normal.  Lungs clear.


Case Discussion

A thoracic aortic aneursym is less common than an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Ectasia ( unfolding ) of the aorta is often identified incidentally in the elderly population and a more common cause of thoracic aortic dilatation.
