Thoracoplasty

Case contributed by Bindu Kumar
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Asymptomatic

x-ray

Marked volume loss of the right hemithorax with shift of the mediastinum and elevation of the hemidiaphragm. The pleural space is calcified.

Note the absent first and second ribs, consistent with a thoracoplasty, presumably for the treatment of cavitary pulmonary TB.

Case Discussion

Thoracoplasty on the right for previous TB.
