Tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma

Presentation

Right palpable lymphadenopathy. History of smoking.

Patient Data

Age: 48
Gender: Male
  • Nodular enlargement of right faucial tonsil (13 x 14 x 20mm)
  • No extension into tongue base
  • Lymphadenopathy:
    • Right parapharyngeal region (posterior to mass) 9 x 11 x 27 mm
    • Right submandibular level 2/3 (19 x 15 x 32 mm)
    • Right level 4 - 7 x 14mm.
    • Suspicious left submandibular node 9 x 17mm
    • Prominent left level 2 node 5 x 11x 18mm

Case Discussion

Right tonsil SCC (oropharyngeal sub-site). Staging:

  • T1 - tumor 2cm or less
  • N2c - metastasis in bilateral lymph nodes <6cm
