Traumatic sciatic nerve injury

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Stab to the posterior aspect of his right thigh about one week ago. Now he complains of limited movement of his thigh. Marker was applied to the stab site.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

The stab track appears as a line of high signal intensity traversing the right gluteus maximus muscle reaching deep to the right sciatic nerve which appears mildly swollen showing a slight hyperintense signal (compared to the left side).

The right hamstring muscles (most evident at the semitendinosus) showing increased signal at STIR WI representing denervation injury.
