Tricuspid valve annuloplasty ring

Case contributed by Henry Knipe
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Recent admission with fluid overload.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Chest

x-ray

Marked cardiomegaly without failure. No focal collapse, consolidation or pneumothorax. C-shaped tricuspid annuloplasty ring and sternotomy wires noted.

Case Discussion

A tricuspid annuloplasty ring is demonstrated (CT-proven) - they typically project more anteriorly and to the right than prosthetic mitral valves although the position is variable and identification can be difficult in gross cardiomegaly 1. Tricuspid annuloplasties tend to be C-shaped, while mitral annuloplasties tend to be O-shaped 2.
