Tuberous sclerosis

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard

mri

MRI images demonstrate multiple subependymal nodules showing blooming on gradient sequence and persistent low signal on the others sequences (calcification), and some of them show contrast enhancement as well.

ultrasound

Ultrasound study demonstrates multiple small angiomyolipomas.

Case Discussion

These images demonstrate characteristic features of tuberous sclerosis, with numerous subependymal nodules (best seen on gradient echo on account of their calcium-induced signal drop out), and subcortical tubers (best seen on FLAIR as regions of high T2 signal). The nodules near the foramen of Monro enhance.
