Tuberous sclerosis

Presentation

Long history of seizures, headache and delayed mental milestones. No other medical or significant family history.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Male

Multiple small size subependymal nodules on the lateral ventricular walls bilaterally that display hyperintense signal on T1, hypointense signal on T2 and FLAIR with no significant diffusion restriction or post contrast enhancement. 

Multiple cortical and subcortical areas of altered signal intensity displaying bright signal on T2/FLAIR denoting cortical/subcortical tubers. 

T2* sequence revealed foci of calcification (blooming) seen within the subependymal nodules as well as one of the cortical tubers at the left frontal region. 

Case Discussion

The imaging findings are impressive of tuberous sclerosis with the typical distribution and signal characteristics of cortical and subependymal tubers. CT scan of the abdomen is scheduled to look for other systemic manifestations.
