Tubo-ovarian abscess

Presentation

Severe abdominal pain, fever and elevated white blood cell count. Background of tubal ligation. On examination, she has tenderness in the right lower quadrant of her abdomen.

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Cystic right adnexal lesion associated with peripheral fat stranding.There is also heterogeneous global enlargement of the uterus. In addition there are no evidence of free fluid or appendicitis.The left ovary is unremarkable.  

Case Discussion

The patient underwent laparotomy which revealed an unilateral tubo-ovarian abscess.

Abscess drainage and adhesiolysis were performed and diagnosis of tubo-ovarian abscess was confirmed.
