Ureterocele

Case contributed by Jeremy Jones
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Recurrent urinary tract infections.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Filling defect within the bladder adjacent to the left VUJ. Duplicated tracts with dilated upper moieties.

Case Discussion

Rounded filling defect within the left side of the bladder adjacent to the left VUJ. Feauters are of a ureterocele.

Looking closely at the upper tracts you can see that both kidneys have duplicated collecting systems with dilated upper moieties (although both are partially cropped from the film).

Duplicated collecting system with left ureterocele as a cause of recurrent UTI.

An ultrasound would have been a better test to perform in a patient with recurrent UTI and would have confirmed all these findings (it was subsequently performed).
