Right-sided colicky flank pain.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Ultrasound was performed.Note the following abnormalities:

  • Hydronephrosis.
  • Echogenic shadowing calculi in the renal collecting system.
  • Ureterolith with ureteric dilatation.

Case Discussion

Renal colic is one of the most common diseases seen in the emergency department. Ultrasound can serve as an initial investigation for detecting stones with or without associated hydronephrosis and is especially useful when avoiding radiation is important.
