Urethral stricture

Case contributed by Maciej Mazgaj
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Impaired micturition and recurrent infections of urethra after hypospadias reconstruction.

Patient Data

Age: 7 years
Gender: Male

Functional US 2D/3D of urethra

ultrasound

Patient underwent functional ultrasound 2D/3D of urethra with and without micturition. Transperineal approach and classic penile ultrasound was performed.

B-mode US study of the penis while micturating revealed cystic widening of urethra at two levels caused by multilevel urethral strictures as a complication of hypospadias reconstruction. Within the urethral lumen there are irregular echoes, a result of recurrent urethra infections.

Volume calculation of distended urethra - approx. 50 ml.

Annotated image: Urethra at the level of glans (A) and spongious part (B). Asterisks indicate narrowed lumen. Numbers 1 and 2 - distended parts of urethra. Number 3 - normal proximal lumen of spongious urethra.
