Presentation
Presented with constipation symptoms. Ultrasound demonstrates a posterior uterine mass.
Patient Data
T2 weighted sequences from the MRI pelvis were evaluated in stereoscopic 3D using The Body VR Anatomy Dicom Viewer.
There is a large well defined mass seen at the posterior wall of the uterus. It appears to arise from the subserosal space and indents onto the posterior myometrial wall of the uterus and the rectum. It demonstrates low signal intensity on both T1 and T2 sequences. No abnormal enhancement of this mass noted.
Case Discussion
Uterine fibroids are benign monoclonal tumors predominantly composed of smooth muscle cells with variable amounts of fibrous connective tissue. They are often asymptomatic but if large enough can cause mass effect symptoms.
