Presentation

History of fever and recurrent urinary tract infections.

Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Fluoroscopy

Micturating cystourethrogram findings:

  • on filling of bladder with contrast passive reflux was noted
  • on micturating film active reflux was noted
  • bilateral ureters appear dilated and tortuous 
  • bilateral pelvicalyceal systems appear grossly dilated with loss of papillary impressions

Case Discussion

This is a case of bilateral grade 5 vesicoureteric reflux.

It is a common cause of UTIs and fever in newborns and children.

Associated conditions are pyelonephritis and reflux nephropathy (if left untreated).
