Multiple sclerosis of the spine

Discussion:

Multiple sclerosis is a relatively common acquired chronic relapsing demyelinating disease involving the central nervous system. It is by definition disseminated not only in space (i.e multiple lesions in different locations) but also in time (i.e. lesions are of different ages); this is the cornerstone of McDonalds criteria. Imaging the spine and giving contrast (if first presentation) is useful in establishing the diagnosis on the first presentation.
