Case contributed by Hani Makky Al Salam
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Leg length discrepancy at birth.

Patient Data

Age: Neonate
Gender: Male

Abnormally formed right femur. It is short, thin and proximally deficient. The acetabulum appears unremarkable, although at this age neither femoral head can be seen.

3 months later

x-ray

Right femoral focal deficiency. The femur is small and thin and deficient proximally. Normal left femur. Both tibia and fibula appear normal and symmetrical.

Case Discussion

A newborn male patient with features of right proximal focal femoral deficiency. Even at 11 weeks, the femoral head cannot be seen to be ossified, although there is the impression of cartilaginous head, and as such it is not possible to classify this deformity. See classification of PFFD
