Patient Data
Normal positioned gastric band with phi angle of 49 degrees.
- normal positioning of the gastric band.
- gastro esophageal junction identifed above the hiatus with proximal pouch also seen above the hiatus. No undue proximal pouch distension.
- normal phi angle of the gastric band.
Normal gastric air fluid level identified post band removal.
Post band removal oral gastrografin study reveals the anatomic appearance that is typically seen in the banding patient with a proximal pouch like appearance in early stomach filling phase and with free flow of contrast in previous site of gastric constriction.
Case Discussion
Understanding the type of gastric banding used, the normal radiologic appearances, the usual post banding complications is essential to provide an optimal report to the surgeon.
This patient was not finding sufficient improvement in weight loss following banding. Hence an alternative bariatric option - laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was due to be performed and a sceeening upper GI fluoroscopic study was done.
