What is the definition of Femoro-acetabular impingement?
Femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI) refers to a clinical syndrome of painfully limited hip motion as result of certain types of underlying morphological abnormalities in the femoral head/neck region and/or surrounding acetabulum. This can lead to early degenerative disease.
What are the causes and epidemiology of pincer FAI?
Pincer type is essentially an over-coverage of the femoral head by the acetabulum and is more common in middle-aged women, occurring at an average age of 40 years, and can occur with various disorders.
Post operative films. Since no preoperative films are available this film is included since it best shows the signs of acetabular protrusio. Note how the medial wall of the acetabulum is more medial than the ilio-ischial line.
