Cerebral venous thrombosis

Discussion:

This 20 year old female presented with drowsiness and seizure-like spell.

Initial non-contrast CT showed high density of dural venous sinuses and deep cerebral veins. The differentiation was made by comparing the density of basilar artery and dural venous sinuses, which should be the same on a non-enhanced study.

Subsequently, the patient went on to have contrast enhanced MRI that confirmed the diagnosis of extensive cerebral venous thrombosis. Anti-coagulation was started. The patient was instructed to stop oral contraception medication. No adverse clinical sequelae were observed by the treating team.
