Unconscious state after exposure to heating gas in a closed environment.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
ct

Hypoattenuation noted involving bilateral globus pallidus and periventricular white matter.

No evidence of intracranial hemorrhage.

Case Discussion

Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning results in anoxic-ischemic encephalopathy which is seen on CT as low attenuation areas in the globus pallidus and in cerebral white matter.
