CPPD of the knee

Discussion:

Calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease (CPPD) in the knee. 

The knee is the joint most commonly affected by CPPD. Typical findings are:

  • chondrocalcinosis involving both menisci and hyaline cartilage
  • predominant patellofemoral joint osteoarthritis
  • calcifications of the gastrocnemius tendon
