What is ARDS?
Damage to the respiratory epithelium from various causes include drugs, causes increase permeability and fluid/protein accumulation in the interstitium. The radiologic and pathologic terminology is diffuse alveolar damage, DAD. The degree of hypoxia and other criteria than determines the clinical diagnosis of either acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or acute lung injury (ALI)
