Meniscal and parameniscal cysts occur usually following meniscal tear when the synovial fluid dissect inside the meniscal material (meniscal cyst) and when it extends outside the meniscal it is termed parameniscal cyst.

Differential considerations include intercondylar notch cyst, popliteal cyst, Post ACL graft tibial tunnel cyst and joint effusion.
