Segond fracture with associated anterior cruciate ligament tear

Discussion:

Segond fractures are avulsions of the lateral aspect of the tibial plateau. This fracture is frequently associated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear (75-100%) and meniscal tear (67%).

Mechanism of injury resulting in this type of fracture is external rotation with varus stress causing excessive tension on the lateral capsule ligament.
