Transient bone marrow edema: hip

Discussion:
Diffuse bone marrow edema throughout femoral head and neck with features of synovitis.  Bone scan shows focal hot spot in the femoral head with subtle linear defect on T1 coronal MRI = subtle "stress" fracture with marked surrounding reactive edema.   This is thought to be the origin of so-called "transient bone marrow edema".
