Pelvic checklist and predominantly trauma cases.
These cases are a few examples of common pelvic injuries/patterns of pelvic injury and complement the "Pelvis" chapter of "Accident & Emergency Radiology: A survival guide".
Points to remember:
- The pelvis comprises 3 bony rings: the main pelvic ring and the two smaller rings formed by the pubic and ischial bones.
- A double break in the MAIN pelvic ring is an unstable injury (SI joint disuption or pubic symphysis diastasis are considered "breaks").
- Acetabular and sacral fractures are easily overlooked.
- Beware overcalling unfused synchondroses in paediatric patients or unfused ossification centres ( eg. os acetabuli).
