Acute cholecystitis refers to the primary complication of cholelithiasis and the most common cause of acute right upper quadrant pain.

CT features of acute cholecystitis are cholelithiasis, gallbladder distension, wall thickening, mural or mucosal hyperenhancement, pericholecystic fluid and inflammatory fat stranding and enhancement of the adjacent liver parenchyma.
