Appendiceal mucocele

Presentation

Lower abdominal non-specific, long-standing pain.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female
ct

A definable, tubular shaped, fluid density mass lesion with incomplete rim of calcification is noted involving right iliac fossa which is showing continuation with base of the appendix.

No definite invasion of the adjacent organs is seen.

The liver is enlarged in size with diffuse fatty changes of the hepatic parenchyma is noted.

Few simple cortical renal cysts and calcified pleural plaques on left sides are noted as well.

Case Discussion

CT features are tubular cystic mass lesion involving right iliac fossa, likely suggestive of appendiceal mucocoele rather than mucinous neoplasm of appendix as described above
