Patient Data

4.1cm heavily calcified right cerebellopontine angle mass. Suggestion of possible intracannilicular extension but no expansion.

Partial effacement of the 4th ventricle.  No hydrocephalus.

Normal supratentorial brain.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates a incidental cerebellopontine angle (CPA) mass.

Meningiomas are common at this site and often calcify.   However, the main differential at the CPA is a vestibular schwannoma.  These rarely calcify although the 'ice cream' type morphology and suggestion of intracannilicular extension is more in keeping with a schwannoma.

MRI of the IAM's would assist in a definitive diagnosis if further investigation was felt merit/necessary.
