Desmoid tumour - anterior abdominal wall

Presentation

Postpartum 3 months. Complaining of a palpable mass in the right lower abdomen.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

There is a well-defined, heterogeneous hypoechoic lesion involving the right lower anterior abdominal wall. There are no cystic spaces/ calcification. A non-uniform acoustic shadowing is present. There are few flow signals in the lesion. The lesion involves transversus abdominis and internal oblique muscles. The lesion is lateral to the right rectus abdominis muscle and right inferior epigastric vessels. There was no other abnormality in the abdomen.

The photo shows resected anterior abdominal wall tumour.

Case Discussion

A female with 3 months postpartum status presented with a palpable right lower abdominal lesion. The ultrasound shows a solid lesion involving the anterior abdominal wall. Surgical excision revealed a well-defined solid lesion involving the right transversus abdominis and internal oblique muscles.

Histopathology revealed the lesion being a desmoid tumour.
