Extensive intracerebral haemorrhage

Presentation

Sudden onset of unresponsiveness. GCS 3. History of arterial hypertension.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female

Extensive haematoma with epicentre in right basal nucleus region, measuring 56 x 50 x 47 mm in diameter with volume of 68 cc. It is associated with severe haemoventricle, compression and displacement of the lateral ventricles, midline deviation to the left of 20 mm, subfalcine and descending transtentorial herniations.

Case Discussion

This case shows an extensive intracerebral haematoma with mass effect, midline shift and hemoventricle. The epicentre is in the basal ganglia and hypertension is the likely underlying cause.
