Presentation
Non-localised area of pain in the left a lower gluteal/proximal third of posterior left thigh for 1 year. Over time, the pain was very much localised and the patient could pinpoint it at the time of the ultrasound study. On clinical examination, there was no visible or palpable swelling but there was significant tenderness.
Patient Data
There is a well-defined lesion at the site of pain pointed by the patient - in the left the gluteal region. It is in subcutaneous plane abutting a deeper part of the skin. The lesion measures about 5 X 3 X 3 mm. The lesion is hypoechoic without calcification/ cystic changes. It is mildly compressible. On colour Doppler study, the lesion is completely filled with flow signals. There are arterial as well as venous flow signals.
Case Discussion
An adult male presented with lower gluteal/ upper thigh region pain. Ultrasound shows a tiny highly vascular nodule in the region of pain. The clinical background and ultrasound findings favoured a glomus tumour.
Surgical excision of the lesion was performed using ultrasound for lesion localisation. Histopathology confirmed the lesion being glomangioma.
