Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

Discontinuity of the flexor pollicis longus tendon. The proximal torn end is located about 25 mm proximal to the distal end of the radius. The distal torn end is located about 30 mm distal to the distal end of the radius. Post-plate-screw fixation status of the radius.

The rest of the wrist examination was normal.

Case Discussion

An elderly lady had a plate-screw fixation for a distal radius fracture one year before the ultrasound. She presented with a loss of thumb flexion without any history of recent injuries. The clinically suspected diagnosis of flexor pollicis longus tendon tear was confirmed by the ultrasound. The gap between the torn ends is about 55 mm.
